Sundarbans to be a new district: Mamata
State government has big plans to develop the tourism sector in the region
The Sunderbans will soon become a separate district in West Bengal, which will help the people of the region get easier and quicker access to administrative activities, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, yesterday.
Speaking at a meeting in Samserganj in North 24 Parganas district, the Chief Minister said that besides creating a new district, the Department of Sundarban Affairs has chalked out a master plan for the development of the region.
“The master plan will be forwarded to the Union government,” Banerjee said. She added that the state has plans to develop the tourism sector in the region. “We are especially emphasising on the creation of homestay facilities in Sundarbans,” she said.
