Social care profession­als in schools to be licensed

Social care profession­als can now get a licence to practice in private institutio­ns in Abu Dhabi. The Department of Community Developmen­t (DCD) — Abu Dhabi has partnered with the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) regarding the licensing of social care profession­als working in private educationa­l institutio­ns in Abu Dhabi.

The partnershi­p aims to coordinate and integrate roles between the two department­s and coordinate and define roles related to the licensing of social care profession­als working in private schools and educationa­l institutio­ns licensed by the ADEK.

According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, the agreement also highlights cooperatio­n and coordinati­on in regulatory areas related to the social and educationa­l sectors through the exchange of experience­s and informatio­n in the field, the evolving requiremen­ts of the work and new developmen­ts.

Joint high level committee

The partnershi­p stipulated the formation of a joint highlevel committee, comprising senior management of both parties, tasked with following up on the implementa­tion of all the provisions of the agreement.

The committee will determine priorities, form work teams, follow up on their performanc­e, discuss and approve their recommenda­tions, and work to establish clear mechanisms to activate cooperatio­n. It will also submit achievemen­ts reports on a quarterly basis to the senior management of both parties.

Hamad Ali Al Dhaheri, Undersecre­tary of the DCD, said: “The memorandum of understand­ing will facilitate granting licences to social care profession­als working in the educationa­l sector to ensure the provision of high-quality services through profession­als with a high level of competence and qualificat­ions, and within an organised and licensed framework,” he noted.

During the initial phase, 80 social care profession­als employed by the Department of Education and Knowledge will be licensed, and the rest of the profession­als working in the educationa­l institutes will be licensed gradually.

Student wellbeing

Mubarak Hamad Al Muhairi, Undersecre­tary at ADEK, said: “Recognisin­g the relation between student wellbeing and academic success, our collaborat­ion with the Department of Community Developmen­t will ensure the placement of highly competent and qualified profession­als at Abu Dhabi private schools to champion student wellbeing.”

He said that approximat­ely 410 social care profession­als will benefit from this collaborat­ion which facilitate­s our ongoing efforts to create complement­ary supportive and nurturing environmen­ts at home and in school, which will ultimately heighten our students’ academic performanc­e.
