New sounds for the new year
This year is already looking like it is going to be a stellar one in terms of new musicians and music. This week we are taking a look at some of the most promising new singers from a variety of genres who will be making waves in 2019.
Twenty-one-year-old English singer Olivia Devine, who goes by the name L Devine, irst attracted the attention of music producer Mickey Valen after she posted a mash-up of her own music with a Beyonce track to Youtube. She released her irst single Peer Pressure in 2017 and since then has released two EPS. Olivia is on the “ones to watch” list for Youtube Music.
Another Sky is a London-based band who have been garnering attention on the gig-scene since 2014. Their single Avalanche got critics talking with its condemnation of toxic masculinity and police brutality. It was written just as the #metoo movement came to light. The band used to perform in total darkness but not anymore.
After experiencing homelessness and poverty, French-british rapper Octavian has been building himself up as one of the most promising new artists in Britain. With a hint of Drake and Bon Iver, Octavian’s music has a distinguishable sound which audiences are loving. He released his full-length mixtape Spaceman back in September after signing with SONY/ATV and Stellar Songs.
