The 76th Golden Globe Awards were held on Jan.6 in Los Angeles California marking not only one of the biggest events in film, but also in fashion. All eyes were on the red carpet as Hollywood’s leading ladies arrived wearing a variety of dresses and gowns. We take a look at who wore what on the special night.

Lady Gaga was already a winner before winning her Golden Globe for best original song after she descended onto the red carpet in a Valentino couture gown. The dress paid homage to

Judy Garland who wore a very similar number in the 1954 version of A Star Is Born. Gaga enlisted the help of designer Pierpaolo Piccioli to design the custom-dyed, lavender strapless dress.

White also seemed to be a popular choice with Hollywood’s leading ladies with Sandra Oh and Julianne Moore opting for the shade. Sandra, who hosted the event and became the first actress of Asian descent to win multiple Golden Globes, wore four different looks. The first was a white Versace gown with an asymmetrical neckline and ruche detailing. There were whispers that white was chosen as a reference to the history of women’s suffrage and the Votes for Women movement which used the hue to represent purity.

Black Panther star Lupita Nyong’o stood out in a strapless blue beaded fringe dress from Calvin Klein. Also in a bright colour was Jameela Jamil who opted for a coral coloured Monique Lhuillier strapless gown. Apparently the actress wore jeggings underneath her dress to stop her from getting cold on the red carpet.
