Celebrity chef Michael Mina’s res­tau­rant em­pire is pri­mar­ily spread across the US but luck­ily you don’t have to catch a plane to sam­ple the James Beard-award win­ner’s cui­sine as he’s opened a carniovore-cen­tric haunt in Dubai, too.

As the name sug­gests, meat is in the spot­light here but there are op­tions ‘from the sea’ and ‘from the gar­den’ as well. And what sets this spot apart from other mall-based of­fer­ings is the spec­tac­u­lar plat­ing and su­pe­rior pro­duce – this is no fast-food joint – plus the ex­cep­tional staff, who have a keen in­sight into the menu.

Ev­ery­thing from a per­fectly cooked mon­ster-sized Tom­a­hawk steak to suc­cu­lent New Zealand lamb chops and hick­ory-smoked beef ribs (don’t for­get to or­der the rich truf­fle mac’n’cheese or herbed french fries as sides) is pro­duced ex­pertly. Con­nois­seurs can even splash out on the dry-aged op­tion, and there are a va­ri­ety of burg­ers (in­clud­ing a falafel one), plus ginger and spring onion sea bass, meat­balls and spaghetti and roast chicken.

We felt the starters in par­tic­u­lar were bril­liant; the av­o­cado is given bite with pick­les and crisp kataifi, the stone-cooked beef is piled on to con­trast­ing let­tuce, the chicken wings are de­cid­edly mor­eish and the sliv­ers of ahi tuna will dis­ap­pear in­stantly. Desserts are also a high­light; from a caramelised ba­nana sun­dae to a wedge of spiced car­rot or rich chocolate cake, you’ll sa­ti­ate your sweet tooth.
