Celebrity chef Michael Mina’s restaurant empire is primarily spread across the US but luckily you don’t have to catch a plane to sample the James Beard-award winner’s cuisine as he’s opened a carniovore-centric haunt in Dubai, too.
As the name suggests, meat is in the spotlight here but there are options ‘from the sea’ and ‘from the garden’ as well. And what sets this spot apart from other mall-based offerings is the spectacular plating and superior produce – this is no fast-food joint – plus the exceptional staff, who have a keen insight into the menu.
Everything from a perfectly cooked monster-sized Tomahawk steak to succulent New Zealand lamb chops and hickory-smoked beef ribs (don’t forget to order the rich truffle mac’n’cheese or herbed french fries as sides) is produced expertly. Connoisseurs can even splash out on the dry-aged option, and there are a variety of burgers (including a falafel one), plus ginger and spring onion sea bass, meatballs and spaghetti and roast chicken.
We felt the starters in particular were brilliant; the avocado is given bite with pickles and crisp kataifi, the stone-cooked beef is piled on to contrasting lettuce, the chicken wings are decidedly moreish and the slivers of ahi tuna will disappear instantly. Desserts are also a highlight; from a caramelised banana sundae to a wedge of spiced carrot or rich chocolate cake, you’ll satiate your sweet tooth.
