Gourmet destinations

Hello! Middle East - - THIS WEEK -

It has one of the most magical settings in Dubai; perched by the water on the pristine Madinat Jumeirah beach with spectacular views of the Burj Al Arab. Yet this al fresco spot seduces not just with its vistas, but with its delicious Greek-style cuisine that suits the space perfectly.

Starters set up the Greek vibe nicely, with generous portions, served with hot bread. From the oven-baked feta flecked lightly with chilli flakes to the crunchy broccoli and avocado salad, our favourite soutzoukakia -- meat patties in a tomato sauce -- and the traditional flaky spinach pie, everything was served with aplomb.

Mains will also transport you to the shores of Mykonos -- our giant chicken gyros came with moreish chips and plenty of creamy tzatziki, while the lamb chops were perfectly grilled, medium rare as requested.

Nearby tables were opting for hearty casseroles such as a traditional lemon-lamb stew, comforting moussaka and a herb-topped lobster pasta that was plenty for two. Those wanting something simple will warm to the fresh grilled seafood, including an impressive sea bass offering.

Although we were tempted by the traditional loukoumades -- a doughnutlike sweet confection drizzled with honey -- by this point we were too full for dessert, giving us an excuse to return another time.

Shisha smokers will be glad to know they can enjoy some on the sand, tucking in to bar bites and a selection from the main menu.
