PRIYANKA CHOPRA and NICK JONAS celebrate their nuptials with a big fat Indian wedding
The Duchess of Sussex’s close friend Priyanka Chopra jetted into her native India last week for her and US pop star Nick Jonas’s lavish wedding celebrations.
The Bollywood star and former Miss World – now busy carving out a career in Hollywood – and her fiancé tied the knot in stunning nuptials that took place over five days, included two ceremonies and a pre-wedding dance competition , plus gave a nod to each of the couple’s respective religious beliefs and cultures.
Their colourful celebrations kicked off with a ganesh puja (a private Hindu prayer ceremony) at the Mumbai home of Priyanka’s mother Madhu.
Priyanka, 36, wore a pale blue kurta embellished with pink florals and accents, while Joe, 26, wore pink kurta pyjamas (right). The outfits were designed by Indian couturier Manish Malhotra and the bride and groom-to-be accessorised with a bindi on their foreheads.
Among the guests were Nick’s three brothers, and Joe’s fiancée, English actress and Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner.
EAST MEETS WEST
The glamorous wedding party then flew north to Jodhpur, where their agenda included the traditional mehndi, in which
henna is painted on the bride’s skin, and the sangeet, where the bride’s and groom’s families meet each other and sing and dance.
An epic reception in New Delhi saw the radiant bride don an incredible custom red lehenga by Sabyasachi Mukherjee, 44, who also dressed her new husband. The stunning ensemble, which the Indian designer described on Instagram as a “piece of impossible couture”, took 110 embroiderers from Calcutta a total of 3,720 hours to create.
For her Christian ceremony, the Baywatch beauty walked down the aisle in a sheer, long sleeve gown by Ralph Lauren that took 1,826 hours to create and was hand-beaded and hand-embroidered, with scalloped sleeves and a highneck collar.
