PETRA ECCLESTONE FINDS HAPPINESS AGAIN WITH GALLERY DIRECTOR SAM PALMER
Petra Ecclestone has become engaged to gallery director Sam Palmer a year after they started dating.
In an exclusive interview and photoshoot with hello! last year, the heiress opened up about the couple’s whirlwind romance, describing Sam as an “amazing person” who had walked into her life following her highly publicised divorce from businessman James Stunt.
The couple had met through her sister Tamara’s husband Jay Rutland, group creative director of contemporary art dealers Maddox Gallery. Sam is director of the Los Angeles branch, which opened in October.
“Jay and Sam are best friends. [Sam’s] very loyal. He’s brutally honest and sometimes that offends people but I find it refreshing,” said Petra, 30, who had three children with James: daughter Lavinia, who turns six next month, and three-year-old twin boys Andrew and James.
Her happiness with Sam came when she least expected it.
“Life comes in unexpected waves and turns. And luckily I’ve found someone amazing. I was totally not expecting it. I honestly thought I’d just be single for the rest of my life. I was like: ‘I’m happy with my kids,’ and that was it.” Announcing the engagement on New Year’s Eve, Petra’s representative said: “Petra Ecclestone and Sam Palmer are delighted to announce their engagement and look forward to spending
Reacting to the news, Petra’s father, billionaire former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, said: “I don’t know what the hurry is… I’m happy if she’s happy. That’s the most important thing.”
A HAPPY NEW YEAR
Sam, 34, posted a photo on Instagram of him and Petra, writing alongside:
“I hope everyone had as an amazing year as us and that 2019 brings lots of love, health and happiness to all. My personal highlights have been opening the gallery in LA with the woman I love and her agreeing to marry me.”
Their engagement comes just over 14 months after Petra finalised her divorce.
