IHG open first-ever Voco ho­tel on Aus­tralia’s Gold Coast

The ho­tel com­pany plans to reach 15 sign­ings in to­tal for the up­scale brand by the end of 2018

In­ter­con­ti­nen­tal Ho­tels (IHG) Group has opened the first Voco ho­tel in the world on Aus­tralia’s Gold Coast, just five months af­ter it was launched. The new ho­tel is owned by Aus­tralian prop­erty in­vest­ment firm SB&G Group.

With 389 keys, the Voco Gold Coast also of­fers sev­eral fea­tures that sets it apart from ex­ist­ing ho­tels such as on­site bee­hives, pro­duc­ing honey for var­i­ous uses through­out the ho­tel. The new brand, which holds a strong sus­tain­abil­ity fo­cus, will of­fer re­fill­able dis­pensers for prod­ucts such as soap, along with high-end Aveda ameni­ties and an ini­tia­tive with Gold Coast City Coun­cil to en- sure all kitchen waste is re­cy­cled, a state­ment said.

With six sign­ings of Voco to date, in ad­di­tion to the four prop­er­ties that will re­brand as part of the UK port­fo­lio deal, there are ex­pected to be more than 15 sign­ings in to­tal for the brand by the end of 2018. These in­clude three sign­ings in Aus­tralia, in Vic­to­ria’s wine re­gion, Yarra Val­ley and in the heart of Mel­bourne’s bustling CBD, as well as a num­ber of prop­er­ties in the UK.

Com­ment­ing on the open­ing of the first ho­tel, IHG CEO EMEAA Ken­neth Macpher­son said: “IHG launched the Voco brand in June in Aus­tralia.
