Chef’s kitchen
Serious home-cooks have multiple options to deliver chef-quality results in a five-star setting. From appliances that are more precise than ever to new work scenarios by kitchen system purveyors, the kitchen now merges hyper-functionality and style with the ability to create an extremely tailored experience for the user. Product innovations – such as pull-out refrigerated drawers, customisable cooktops and flexible modular systems that offer open shelves, closed units and tables, counters and more – have allowed studios to offer culinary aficionados a kitchen of their choosing.
For example, Italian kitchen system maker Abimis presents Ego, a modular range crafted of the finest stainless steel and featuring rounded corners, non-drip edges and storage compartments, which comes with deep pullout shelves and offer various temperatures (refrigerated, cool and room). Equipped with pro-like storage pans and trays, elements can be moved from the storage units near the prep or cooking area to the fridge, sink or oven.
“Abimis is more than just a new kitchen: it’s a whole new kitchen concept, a new take on the rules of cooking that brings them back to their origins, their very essence, by reconstructing the environment the contemporary cook moves in, with top-quality design,” says Italian architect Alberto Torsello, who created the Ego collection. “Products are designed to customise and enhance every stage of the cooking process, making for a unique experience in the kitchen by creating an environment calibrated on the movements of the cook; designer kitchens that are user-friendly and innovative, as well as beautiful to look at.”
Other highlights include three cooking methods ( gas, induction and a professional grill), a potent extractor hood, refrigerated waste bin and large sink.
So even though the kitchen has become a social and technology hub of the home (where laptops and smartphones are charging or being perused), they need to be kitchens first, and the latest products make it far easier to cook, store and organise everything from the TV to spices and the chef’s knives.
