02 BUDAPEST WINNING ENTRY
A new road, tram, pedestrian and cycle bridge across the Danube in southern Budapest is to be designed by UNStudio. The Dutch practice, along with BuroHappold Engineering, overcame 16 rivals to win an international competition with a proposal for a 500-metre cable-stayed structure with a main span of 220 metres. The jury report stated: “From an urban design point of view, this is the most well thought-out entry. The bridge would be both an architectural and cityscape symbol, but is simultaneously a traditional and functional bridge structure that does not impinge on its environment.”
