06 HONG KONG RECORD BREAKER
The world’s longest bridge and tunnel sea crossing has opened. The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge stretches for 55 kilometres and spans the sea from an artificial island near Hong Kong International Airport to Macao and the mainland Chinese city of Zhuhai. It is 20 times longer than San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge and contains enough steel to construct 60 Eiffel Towers. The crossing features a 6.7-km section in the middle that dips into an undersea tunnel, ensuring ships can still pass through the Pearl River Delta. The journey from Hong Kong International Airport to Zhuhai has been shortened from four hours to just 45 minutes.
