PACHA IBIZA DUBAI gets a house & techno Reboot!
Pacha get a serious house and techno injection on Friday January 30 as Reboot heads up their main room line up. We caught up with the German producer and DJ to find out what to expect
Welcome to Dubai and Pacha, have you played other Pacha’s around the world, what’s special about the brand?
Thanks for having me. Yes, I have played Pacha clubs all around the globe, especially the Pacha mothership in Ibiza. We are talking about probably the biggest brand in Dance/Music/ Nightlife worldwide. We’ve growna strong relationship and it’s a privilege to me being part of the Pacha family.
Your clubbing history came from Sven Vath in Frankfurt when you were growing up, that must have been amazing? And have you met him now, or played with him?
Absolutely! When I remember the beginnings of House and Techno music in Frankfurt around the late 80s and early 90s, I still get really excited. I was just a kid back then, but I w ill never forget the energy, when I first entered the OMEN Club or the Dorian Grey in 1990. It was clear to me, that this is th e music I want to create. So I started buying synthesizers and drum machines at a very early age. Sven Väth was one of the big influences by that time, but also the house scene around DJ T, Ricardo Villalobos, Ata & Heiko M/S/O. I had the chance to play with him many times and we run into each other every now and then.
How involved do you feel with the techno scene in Germany?
My roots are here in Germany and especially Frankfurt, my home base. In the past 10 years we’ve grown an amazing community of artists around this area. Due to my worldwide touring I didn`t have the chance to play too many gigs in my hometown recently, but we are changing that now. Although, I am more related with house music, than for example the Berlin techno scene, I would still see myself as part of the German underground music movement.
And how do you define techno, what does it mean to you?
Techno and also House music, in my understanding, is the essence of rhythm and sound – a result, from melting the different influences like African and Latin American music, Jazz, Blues and Funk with electronic sounds. Using the almighty 4/4 mothergroove and building up and around it – never letting the focus slip away from the main showplace: The Dancefloor!
We've read you've got a wide range of influences, including jazz, classic house, and tougher techno – what's been your newest influence, where do you go to find new sounds to inspire you?
There is so much good music out there, that it would take way more than a lifetime, to discover it all – but I am trying my best to catch as much as possible! I simply love music – it is my motor! At home or on the road I rarely listen to electronic music. Recently I am back into old funk, reggae and blues. I also read a lot about music and when I read or hear something, that catches my interest, I start digging deeper into it and try to find the roots or creators of a certain type of music. That includes, searching my local Record dealer as much as the usual online shops.
What are your big plans for 2015, Ibiza plans already?
My team and I have amazing projects coming up for 2015. We have our Noon Artists agency that is growing and growing. We also just launched our own Label Noon-Records, with a sizzling hot EP of our Artist Romano Alfieri. I have been producing a lot of new music in the past months, so new EPs from myself are already in the pipeline and I am also working on a new Studio album. There are also plans for new Live-Shows, Showcases or collaborations. And of course I will be in Ibiza in 2015. It`s too early to present more details – but 2015 can come! We are ready!
And what should people expect from your set if they've not heard you before?
A very broad range of funky and butt-shaking underground dance music! Pacha Ibiza Dubai feat. Reboot, Friday January 30, Madinat Jumeirah, 10pm-3am.
