A stunning ceramic sculpture is featured this month.
Coriolis is a ceramic piece made using the saggar firing method and is part of the Silica Collection, a glass and ceramics ensemble derived from organic forms and textures. It is described as an archetypal sculptural ceramic form, articulating themes of harmony, balance and optimised simplicity.
Irish designer Michael Rice, winner of the Van Cleef and Arpels Middle East Emergent Designer Award at the 2016 Design Days Dubai, specialises in ceramics. He is particularly interested in terra sigillata and firing procedures such as raku, smoke and saggar, and his work is concerned with surface, tessellation and natural geometry.
Priced at Dh3,500, the Coriolis will be showcased for sale at Dubai Design District (d3) during Design Days Dubai (March 14-17). For further information about Michael Rice’s work and other pieces in the Silica Collection, visit his website below.
