IT’S DEFINITELY BEEN a part of Dubai’s underground scene for sometime. The world of B-boys might seem alien to Dubai and the Middle East but in some of the city’s not so popular streets, hip-hop culture and dance has been growing and the talent is undeniable.
If you’re curious to learn more, Sole DXB, Dubai’s only street and urban culture festival has brought out GRIT. GRACE. GOLD a short film exploring the growing b-boy scene of the Middle East and Dubai.
The director and writer of the film Amirah Tajdin wanted to remind people that Dubai has more grit than gold , “using this as my inspired starting point, my team and I went on a journey of shared music, stories and laughs with some of the individuals who give their all to making a mark on narrating their personal lived experiences of the city through dance breakdancing in particular.”
Offering insight into the world of Dubai beyond the glamour and gold people often associate with it, documenting the evolution of the foundations of global hip-hop culture and charting its organic evolution in the Middle East, we highly you recommend you check out GRIT. GRACE. GOLD.
“No matter where you’re from, nationality, race, religion - when you step on the floor we’re all one, we’re all connected,” says Krafty, one of film’s 12 b-boys.
