Sharif urges Baloch militants to join mainstream politics
awaran — Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced that the earthquake-hit Awaran will be made a ‘model district’, and promised that reconstruction activities in the quake affected areas of Balochistan will be carried out on a fast track basis.
Speaking to media after visiting Awaran, the prime minister said that both the federal government and provincial government would join hands to rehabilitate quake victims. “The people of Pakistan must know that their government did not ask for any foreign aid and the funds for rehabilitation would be provided by the federal and provincial governments,” he said.
On the occasion Sharif also made an appeal to estranged Baloch leaders and militants to enter the national mainstream and become part of the nation-building process.
The prime minister further said that roads would be built in Awaran and electricity would be provided to the district by installing solar energy plants.
He said the quake affected district of Awaran will be transformed into a model district and developed on the pattern of Islamabad and Karachi.
Announcing new initiatives for Awaran district, he said that solar energy will be introduced in the district to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity to the people. Similarly, supply of gas will be ensured to the area.
