Sharif urges Baloch militants to join mainstream politics

awaran — Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced that the earthquake-hit Awaran will be made a ‘model district’, and promised that reconstruc­tion activities in the quake affected areas of Balochista­n will be carried out on a fast track basis.

Speaking to media after visiting Awaran, the prime minister said that both the federal government and provincial government would join hands to rehabilita­te quake victims. “The people of Pakistan must know that their government did not ask for any foreign aid and the funds for rehabilita­tion would be provided by the federal and provincial government­s,” he said.

On the occasion Sharif also made an appeal to estranged Baloch leaders and militants to enter the national mainstream and become part of the nation-building process.

The prime minister further said that roads would be built in Awaran and electricit­y would be provided to the district by installing solar energy plants.

He said the quake affected district of Awaran will be transforme­d into a model district and developed on the pattern of Islamabad and Karachi.

Announcing new initiative­s for Awaran district, he said that solar energy will be introduced in the district to ensure uninterrup­ted supply of electricit­y to the people. Similarly, supply of gas will be ensured to the area.
