- Moni Mathews

DUBAI — The Great Dubai Pulse Ride – Off Road saw more than 350 riders take part in fun filled atmosphere at Dubai Sports City on Friday morning.

Leading the 5km mass start event for beginners and families were Khalid Al Zarooni, president, Dubai Sports City and his son. Zarooni is a keen mountain-biker himself. The event was staged for the second time and is part of the Dubai Sports Council’s Dubai Pulse programme to promote physical activity specifically in Dubai and in the UAE.

Two courses were used – one long course for experienced riders and families covering 5km, and the second which touched nearly 25km for the professionals.

“This is no competition as such but it is a great way to achieve results in terms of physical fitness in an atmosphere of family fun and social interaction,” Brian Murgatroyd, media manager, Dubai Sports City told media.

The morning’s events included a Friday market, face painting, a bouncy castle and a brunch barbeque.

The big turnout of participants saw them cover the routes from the Rugby Park, located next to the ICC offices at Dubai Sports City and around the community areas off the highway zone.

One lucky rider won a Specialised brand mountain bike courtesy of The Cycle Hub, the one-stop cycling shop in Dubai Motor City and official cycling partner of Dubai Sports City.

“The atmosphere was very encouraging. There are so many people who love such programmes where health and well being are given top priority,” said Rajeshree Iyer, head, Marketing, Dubai Sports City.
