UAE is a role model in giving, Qattami tells at Unesco meet

-

paris — Education Minister Humaid bin Mohammed Obaid Al Qattami has said the UAE has been a role model in giving, humanitarian solidarity and support worldwide based on its belief in the fact that the world is big enough for all people and that everyone has the right to a dignified life, health and education.

This is part of the message of peace which the UAE delivers as it extends a helping hand to build schools, reclaim the desert, plants trees and preserve resources and the human heritage in different countries, he said in his speech before the 37th session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) in Paris.

“This is the message the UAE seeks to promote among all peoples of the world, regardless of gender, colour, race and culture, through its close and fruitful partnership with international organisations and Unesco, in particular.”

He pointed out the UAE also seeks to promote its experience in development, using its international strategic partnerships and its high ranking on global competitiveness indices which show the country’s advancement in terms of education.

He described education as closely connected with sustainable development and urged decision makers and planners to act fast to keep pace with the accelerating global developments fueled by technology and the astonishing advances for a better life for humanity.

Noting the UAE has made unprecedented progress in terms of education and succeeded in pro- moting its domestic educational, scientific and cultural awards overseas, the minister cited the Unesco-Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Prize for Outstanding Practice and Performance in Enhancing the Effectiveness of Teachers, which is aimed at improving education quality through raising teacher standards.

He conveyed the greetings from the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, VicePresident and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and Their Highnesses Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates to Unesco. The Unesco General Conference brings together the representatives of all member states every two years at the organisation’s headquarters in the French capital. —
