The economic and cultural evolution of the UAe is closely linked to its oil fortunes. The country made a dramatic transformation from a backward desert region to one of the most dynamic markets in the region, thanks largely to revenue from its oil exports. The UAe presently possesses nearly 10 per cent of the world’s total hydrocarbon reserves. While the country’s economy has now vastly diversified, experts predict that oil and gas will continue to play an increasingly important role in the country’s development especially as a key fuel source for power generation, petrochemicals and manufacturing industry. Notably the UAe is leading from the front to develop a regional gas network that could subsequently link up with the Indian subcontinent.

Pertinently Abu Dhabi is at the heart of the UAe’s energy scene. The emirate roughly controls 85 per cent of the country’s oil output capacity and more than 90 per cent of its reserves. This provides Abu Dhabi the required cushion to ensure long-term prosperity, leveraging its current resources to build a more sustainable and stable economy. In this backdrop the emirate is hosting the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum exhibition and Conference (ADIPeC), one of the largest exhibitions exclusively dedicated to oil and gas in the Middle east. The annual event attracts more than 45,000 attendees, 1,600 international suppliers, NOCs, IOCs and IGOs across 38,500 square metres of net space at the Abu Dhabi National exhibition Centre (ADNeC).

The international event is held under the patronage of the UAe President, his highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and is actively supported by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and the UAe Ministry of energy. Currently in its 16th edition, the exhibition aims to provide a platform for oil and gas professionals to discover concepts, discuss industry issues and meet top people from 1,600 local and international oil and gas companies in order to broaden knowledge and garner experience. More than 4,000 top oil honchos are expected to attend ADIPeC 2013, the largest gatherings of oil and gas professionals within the region and one of the largest outside of North America.

Themed ‘energy for all in a changing world’, ADIPeC will he held at the sprawling ADNeC, a state-ofthe-art exhibition hub in the UAe capital. The largest exhibition venue in the Middle east has interconnected halls offering extensive event services including imaginative conference and banqueting facilities. Notably the organisers are pulling out all stops to make the conference a success with last minute details like shuttle service introduced from Zayed Sports City Stadium to the main entrance of ADIPeC, running every five minutes.

having established itself as responsible players in the international oil and gas industry, the UAe is on the path to a bold future. With the country showcasing the range and depth of economic activity taking place, ADIPeC brings together industry’s movers and shakers to discuss the need and growing demand for energy, apart from the need to diversify the energy resources and technologies used.
