dubai — Manipal University defeated Skyline University by 44 runs in a keenly contested quarter-finals match of the Maxtalent Global Sports Pride cup tournament organised under the aegis of Dubai Cricket council at the Fairground­s Oval

Put into bat first, Manipal University captain Saurabh Gir and Arif Ali opened the innings to give their team a good start. Manipal University batsman other than got off well but failed to capitalise on it.

Despite wickets falling from the other end, Gir continued positively as he went on to score an unbeaten 90 off 58 balls and with Syed Yaseens contributi­on in the slog overs of 19 off 10 balls ensured Manipal University reach 184 in 20 overs.

Skyline University had the ever inspiring captain Salman Babar leading the chase coming fresh off a 31 ball century in the previous game. Babar smashed the Manipal bowlers to all parts of the ground and looked like he would take the game away away from them.

With Babar batting at 82 off 43 balls, Gir introduced part time medium pacer Harjot Singh. who cleaned up Salman Babar off the very first ball. Babar’s dismissal dried up the runs and opened the floodgates as Harjot Singh struck again in the very same over. At the end of 20 overs Manipal University restricted Skyline University for 140 having picked up 6 wickets. Gir’s strong batting performanc­e ensured that he won the MSG Player of the Match award.
