dubai — Two Dubai Police officers have been left badly injured after a gang of criminals brutally attacked them when they were caught off-guard in the middle of a robbery attempt.

At about 2pm on Nov 6, the Dubai Police Operations Room received a tip-off about a car theft, with information that the stolen car was spot- ted near an electronics shop located near a bank in Fareej Al Murrar.

A police patrol from the Naif police station was immediately dispatched to the incident site, and upon arrival, they spotted the empty car in question parked outside the shop.

The duo then entered the shop to question those inside about the vehicle, but were stunned when they realised they had walked in on a live robbery attempt. After spotting the officers, the group of four men began attacking the them.

One of the suspects hit the first officer with a stick and a second gang-member stabbed the other officer in the neck, before fleeing the shop.

One of the injured police officers tried to chase after the suspects, but they managed to escape from the crime scene.

After investigations, it was revealed that an employee of the shop attempted to call the police when the gang first entered the premises, however one of the attackers, wield- ing a knife, threatened to hurt them if they tried to call for help.

An employee was then ordered to open the shop’s safe, and the gang members stole the Dh1.6 million cash inside.

The owner of the shop arrived on scene to find three of his employees tied up on the ground, with the two injured officers close by.

The search is ongoing for the four suspects and the two injured police officers are recovering in hospital.
