Capital to hike oil output to 4.5m tonnes by mid-’14

abu dhabi — Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, or Adnoc, is working to ensure safe oil and gas supply globally by increasing output to 4.5 million tonnes by mid2014, its director-general Abdulla Nasser Al Suwaidi at Adipec 2013, which was opened by Shaikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser, in Abu Dhabi.

Adipec 2013 is organised under the patronage of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and supported by Adnoc, the Ministry of Energy and the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Themed “Energy for all in a Changing World”, Adipec 2013 is the largest regional event in the gas and oil sector, taking place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre and which will run until November 13.

lenges posed by an evolving energy landscape, in the presence of over 50,000 energy profession­als from across the globe.

The event will also explore the growing demand for the empowermen­t of women in the oil and gas sector and the need for the industry to encourage and inspire young people to take up careers in gas and oil.

During his opening address to some of the world’s most important energy leaders, Suhail bin Mohamed Faraj Fares Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy, said: “Adipec 2013 is an outstandin­g forum to directly discuss pressing issues facing the all-important oil and gas industry.’’

As one of the major producers in the world, he said the UAE and Abu Dhabi continue to lead the way as a global hub for technology and innovation. “Important changes are taking place as part of the shifting energy balance: the UAE has decided to be part and embrace this change, while remaining a reliable source and supplier of hydrocarbo­n to the world,” he said.

Abdulla Nasser Al Suwaidi, director-general of Adnoc, said the event was held at a pivotal time in our region, when the shifting energy balance is shaping the future of global economic growth.

He said oil and gas remain at the centre of this balance and Adnoc continues to ensure a safe oil and gas supply.

Mohammed A. Sahoo Al Suwaidi, director of the Gas Directorat­e at Adnoc and chairman of the Adipec 2013 Conference, said: “What began as a small gathering of petrol engineers in 1984, ended up being the largest oil and gas conference in this region, and amongst the top three in the world. This year is special to us, because from now on, the Adipec is annual.”
