NIMS-D’s Hariharan stuns DPS-S

sharjah — Hariharan of NIMSDubai stunned 2012 runners-up DPS-Sharjah for a 1-0 victory on the opening day of the 29th Our Own Sharjah Inter-School Invitation­al Soccer Tournament 2013, on Saturday.

The fighting DPS boys who are out of the tourney now, tried hard for the elusive equaliser.

Defending champions Our Own English High School, Fujairah were through to the last eight stage following a hard fought 2-1 victory over hosts Our Own English High School, Sharjah.

Sharjah Indian School (SIS) outpaced NIMS-Sharjah 6-1, with Anandu and Ashlin of SIS registerin­g braces. Dheeraj and Vishnu found the net once each.

Gulf Asian English School defeated DPS, Dubai 3-1 and a strong St. Mary’s Catholic School raced to a 5-2 win over Emirates National School.

In the afternoon session on Saturday, Gems Modern Academy failed to turn up in time and The Westminste­r School, Dubai were given a walkover into the next round. Winchester School, Dubai defeated The Indian High School, Dubai 4-0 while Our Own Indian School, Dubai pounded Progressiv­e English School for a 4-0 scoreline.

The popular school event was declared open by the hosts’ principal Thomas Mathew and the day was certainly an exciting and eventful one with eight matches played, where 15 of the 16 squads reported for action.
