Mena Tour set for keen finish in Al Ain

-

al ain — The 2013 Mena Golf Tour reaches its exciting climax this week at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club where the most exclusive field of the season will line-up for the Tour Championship presented by Abu Dhabi Sports Council.

The season-ending championship, starting on Monday, features top 40 professionals and 15 leading amateurs from their respective Orders of Merit who have played a minimum of six events on the 10stop tour this season.

England’s Zane Scotland, a four-time winner on the tour, has already sealed the Mena Tour champion title by taking an unbeaten lead in the Order of Merit with $50,229 in earnings.

The Englishman, who is also a ‘golf in DUBAi’ ambassador, however, is forced to miss the final event as he is competing this week in the European Tour Qualifying School Final Stage at PGA Catalunya Resort, Girona in Spain.

Welsh ace Stephen Dodd, who has won twice this season, is almost assured of the second place with $29,215 in earnings ahead of England’s Ian Keenan, who is currently placed third with $19,009 in the bank with Trevor Marshall of New Zealand occupying solo fourth on $13,430. The Championship boasts a prize of $75,000 with the winner walking away with a cheque for $13,500.

Morocco’s Mustapha El Maouas is well placed in the race for the leading amateur with 219 points, followed in that order by England’s James Allan (180) and Morocco’s Ahmed Marjan (170). With a minimum of top 10 amateurs plus ties from each event making to the final round, their division produced a close fight, but it was El Maouas who held sway with a consistent performance.
