Pushbullet: Simple utility with great value

- Prashant Vadgaonkar

IIMAGINE THIS: You are preparing for some urgent meeting on your desktop computer and the mobile phone keeps beeping and blinking repeatedly with notifications soliciting and beckoning you to pick up the phone to check the same. This can get disturbing and at times annoying. But now there’s an app which diligently keeps redirecting all your phone notifications to your desktop apart from providing a simple way of pushing data from one device to another!

Pushbullet is an Android app which allows the users to push files, images, links, notes, addresses checklists and even notifications from the mobile devices to the desktop computer and vice versa.

To use the app, one needs to simply install it on the mobile devices used and select the preferred Google account of choice. The same Google account once logged-in from the desktop or notebook computer onto the Pushbullet site will complete the set-up. Thereafter, from the desktop one can select which devices are to be used to push data and can start pushing data files up to about 25 Mb. Once Pushbullet pushes any item to a configured mobile device, it generates a notification in the notification bar and also automatically downloads the same on the mobile device.

The users can also push data items to the Android devices on their social network and the app pulls in all the contacts that are synced up with the phone. The app being IFTTT compatible can help connect two or more disparate services or applications to talk to each other and exchange data seamlessly. The most striking feature of the app of course, is to push display of every notification from the mobile phone on the configured desktop.

The app which seems to carrying out just a simple push functionally truly stands out since it is indeed an extremely convenient and easy to use alternative compared to conventional emails and cloud storage services.
