dubai — The Ministry of Education has banned carrying or using mobile phones or any electronic equipment inside examination halls for the upcoming Grade 12 exams.

Students of grades 6 to 12 who will appear for the final exam of the third semester — starting June 14 — are not allowed to use or carry mobile phones or any electronic devise in the examination halls, according to the general rules and directives issued by the Ministry of Education.

The ministry said exam committees have to be vigilant and exam papers should be treated with confidentiality.

In case of shortcomings or negligence in discharging the duties and responsibilities or violating the exam rules and regulations, legal actions will be taken, the ministry warned.

The rules were reviewed and approved at an extensive meeting held on Thursday in the presence of Khawla Al Mualla, assistant undersecretary for the education policies; Aiysha Ghanem Al Marri, director of the evaluation and examinations department; Ahmed Al Daraai, deputy director of the department; heads of exams committees and school principals.

Grade 12 students will get a grace period of 15 minutes to enter the exam hall after the examination starts, and it is designated only for students who have emergency reason. This will not applicable to the students who are inside the campus.

A student will be allowed to leave the exam hall only after an hour since the exam begins; prohibiting teachers from supervising the examination of his/her subject are among other strict rules regarding invigilation and discipline.

Earlier at the meeting, Al Mualla said the ministry and in coordination with the managements of educational zones and schools had exerted huge efforts to arrange for the third semester final exams.

The rules are also applicable to the promotion classes, who the ministry has always been working to create the healthy atmosphere for them and provide them the best opportunities which help them to upgrade their performance while appearing for exams.
