‘uae leads the region in child protection’

Ceremony held to honour partners of the Higher Committee for Child Protection

abu dhabi — Major General Dr Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary-General of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, said the UAE has become a role model in the region for reinforcin­g child protection and safety.

The remarks were made by the secretary-general during a ceremony to honour the partners of the Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of Interior, which was held recently at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarte­rs (GHQ).

Major-General Al Nuaimi underlined the higher committee’s support for local and internatio­nal efforts, in response to the directives of Lieutenant-General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

He noted that the higher committee is a beacon of hope for child protection, and contribute­s to efforts by individual­s working in this field, in line with the Ministry of Interior’s child protection strategy.

importance of protecting children against neglect.

Major Dr Mohammed Khalifa Al Ali, director of the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Centre, underlined the importance of partnershi­p between the centre and all institutio­ns across the public and private sectors to improve child protection and develop proper tools in accordance with the best internatio­nal practices.

Major Al Ali also called for expanding education amongst community members, boosting their awareness in all areas related to child protection, and implementi­ng various initiative­s and activities. —
