Walters loses WBA title on scale
Jamaican sensation Nicholas Walters surrendered his World Boxing Association featherweight world title on the scale Friday, failing to make weight for his Saturday night clash with unbeaten Miguel Marriaga.
Walters, 25-0, initially weighed in at 127.4 pounds (57.79 kg) — 1.4 pounds over the featherweight limit. After 90 minutes he returned to the scale but could get down only to 127.
That means only Colombia’s Marriaga, 20-0 and like Walters a big puncher for the weight class, is eligible to win the WBA title when they meet tomorrow.
