Hyderabad Metro to hit tracks on Telangana Formation Day

hyderabad — The muchawaite­d Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) is all set to become operationa­l from June 2, coinciding with the Telangana State formation day.

“We are planning to launch the metro service on Telangana formation day. We are inviting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the launch. The officials are working out dates with the prime minister’s Office,” the Telangana Municipal Administra­tion and Urban Developmen­t Minister K T Rama Rao said.

Billed as the most modern metro rail technology in the country, the Rs200 billion, 72km long Hyderabad Metro project is being executed by L&T under Public-Private Partnershi­p model.

The first phase includes Stage-1 from Nagole to Secunderab­ad railway station (about 9km) under Corridor-III and stage-2 from Miyapur to SR Nagar (11.9km) under Corridor-I. A total of 20km stretch will be opened up for commercial operations on June 2.

When fully completed, the Hyderabad Metro will be the largest and most modern network in the country. It involves constructi­on of 66 stations, covering three corridors, with stateof-the-art facilities including escalators and elevators. All the three corridors of the metro rail, with a total stretch of 72kms, are above the ground on elevated flyovers passing through the median of the roads at a height of 12 meters to 18 metres.
