The UAE’s ports are among the world’s largest in terms of advanced equipment, capabilities, shipping and unloading, Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, UAE Minister of Infrastructure Development and Chairman of the Federal Transport Authority — Land and Maritime, said.

He added that the UAE has been ranked first at the Arab level and 10th globally for several years in a row in the field of cross-border trade, thanks to the leadership’s support to the maritime and land transportation sector.

Dr Al Nuaimi stressed the authority’s desire to unify visions in this vital sector in terms of planning, coordination and legislation to achieve various ambitions at the local, regional and international levels.

He praised the new cabinet reshuffle ordered by The President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and announced by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Dr Al Nuaimi said: “This is a paradigm shift for those involved in organisational structures and institutional stakeholders. There is no way to cross over to the future using the tools of the past because significant developmental achievements cannot be attained without innovative ideas and new blood.”

The minister said the maritime transport sector in the UAE is witnessing remarkable growth in the areas of ports, operation and maintenance, shipbuilding, drydocks, finance and insurance in accordance with international standards on safety and protection of the marine environment and its security.
