Shehzad hails coaching staff

Ahmed Shehzad has failed to live up to expectations in the Pakistan Super League. Barring an inning of 71, he has really struggled in the tournament. His bad run has cost him a place in the World Twenty20 squad but he is happy with Quetta Gladiators coaching staff.

“The secret behind team’s performance is confidence provided by the team management. It really makes a huge difference. We are playing positive cricket because of the backing only. Our coaches know how to bring the best out of the players,” Shehzad said after the match on Friday.

About Pakistan’s chance in the World T20, he added: “It is unfortunate I am not part of the team but selectors have picked the best possible squad. Under Shahid Afridi’s captaincy Pakistan are supposed to do well. Since the selectors are claiming they have chosen the best we have to wait and see the results. I wish Pakistan do well and lift the trophy. I will do my best to make a comeback in the team.”

Mohammad Nawaz, an emerging player of Quetta Gladiators said: “I am really enjoying my game. I am trying my best but credit goes to our coaching staff. Sir Viv Richards and Moeen Khan have given me a lot of confidence.” When asked about Brad Hodge’s dismissal, Nawaz said: “It was not a huge total and we had to take wickets. Since he was facing the first ball, I tried to give the air to the ball and it turned. It was a turning point of the match.” Peshawar Zalmi head coach Mohammad Akram said: “It is heartening to see we are witnessing competitive cricket and it was the need of the PSL. Although we lost today’s match there are a lot of positives for us. Our youngsters fought well and they deserve credit.”

Akram didn’t agree that Afridi is struggling with the bat: “He has failed to perform according to expectations but you know he is a class act. I am really impressed with his captaincy. We had a very little time but the way the team has gelled together under him is phenomenal.”
