ras al khaimah — The Air Wing Section of the RAK Police on Sunday rescued four tourists, of different nationalities, after they lost their way at the Ghalila Valley in the emirate.

Wing Commander Saeed Rashid Al Yamahi, Head of the Air Wing Section, said the Central Operations Room was alerted about the lost tourists who were in a bad health condition.

“A chopper was immediately dispatched to the site where the entire area was searched until the four tourists were found.”

Al Yamahi said they provided water and all possible first aids to the four tourists.

“The tourists were airlifted to their SUV car down the valley after we were sure about their stable condition.”

All the air wing staffers are geared up to handle all emergency reports in a record time and in the most professional way, he said.

“Tourists and visitors need to be fully attentive to the road, and be equipped with all necessary elec- tronic devices to easily locate themselves and find their way back.”

Few months back, a 22-year-old Briton fell to death from the top of Jais Mountain, the highest peak in the country or exactly 1,910 metres above the sea level, and 30km off RAK downtown.

“Though the National Ambulance dispatched an ambulance and an air wing chopper to the site at the rough mountainous area in a record time, the young man could not make it and succumbed to the fatal injuries he received.”

All mountain goers, tourists and workers are highly urged to be more cautious at these areas and take all precautionary measures for their safety, Yamahi added.

“All rescuers at the Air Wing Section of the RAK Police go on intensive and regular training, apart from being provided with the latest search and rescue equipment.”
