Over 5,000 inferior quality beauty products seized
abu dhabi — The Abu Dhabi City Municipality (ADM) has launched inspection campaigns to crackdown on beauty parlours and salons, to verify their compliance with the hygiene and sanitation conditions in place.
The move comes as part of the municipality’s strategy to protect visitors from harmful impacts of substances used, particularly in cosmeticss and other medical products, besides ensuring the physical fitness of staff.
The municipal teams have conducted dozens of inspection campaigns covering more than 2,875 beauty parlours and hair salons, issued more than 254 violations, seized more than 5,542 packets of cosmetics and herbal mixtures that fall short of the health specifications and standards and pose danger to users.
The municipality confiscated scores of medical devices, which are not duly licensed by the competent authorities.
During the past year and this year, Musaffah Municipal Center carried out 2,217 inspection campaigns targeting beauty parlours and hair salons, conducted 15 predawn swoops, confiscated 5,352 inferior quality cosmetics, and issued 109 tickets against violators for flouting health regulations in place.
Al Wathba Municipal Centre issued more than 28 tickets against beauty salons in the same period, while Al Shahma Municipal Centre reported more than 70 violations, compared to 39 fines and warnings issued by Al Bateen Municipal Centre.
The inspection campaigns covered more than 643 beauty centers and hairdressing salons over the past year, and confiscated more than 200 cosmetic preparations, mixtures and a variety of unlicensed devices.
Keeping a strict eye The legal actions taken by the municipality against violators, include following up offending salons to remind them of the importance of adhering to all laws to avoid violations, and ensure their compliance with health requirements.
If the salon violate such laws, legal actions will be enforced, depending on the type of offense, (instant offenses, judicial viola- tions, warnings), where the competent court shall determine the fine according to the laws and regulations in place.
