hyderabad — The exploitation of the Telangana youth seeking job opportunities in the Gulf by unscrupulous middlemen will, hopefully, be a thing of the past, thanks to a unique initiative undertaken by the state government.

Floated in March last year, the Telangana Overseas Manpower Company Limited (Tomcom) is making effective interventions to help the youth in finding a suitable job with required legal documents.

As part of this mission, a team of Tomcom officials, led by the State Home Minister N Narasimha Reddy, is presently conducting a road show in the Gulf to promote awareness and establish contacts with Gulf employers looking for qualified and trained employees.

During the ongoing road show in the Gulf, being held in coordination with Consul-General, Dubai, and with the assistance of Gulf Telangana Welfare and Cul-

persons from Telangana are employed in the Gulf and other countries

tural Association (GTWCA), the Tomcom officials signed agreements with a string of companies in Dubai for sending qualified and trained employees.

One of the agreements was signed with Emirates Jazeera Power Company for recruiting 250 employees over the next three months. Another MoU was signed with Modern Executive Systems Construction for recruiting 500 people in the next six months.

The HR managers from several companies participated in the road show which evoked very good response, Srinivas, who is coordinating the road show, said. Skilled workers, particularly those passing out from ITIs and polytechnics will find it easy to get reliable jobs without any legal hurdles. “Since the Indian Consulate is involved, there is more authenticity to it,” he said.

One of the major issues haunting the prospective migrants to Gulf for employment is the misleading information given to them by the greedy agents who drain them professionally, personally and financially, said Y Srinivas, founder member of GTWCA.

According to an estimate, around 1 million persons from Telangana are currently employed in the Gulf and other countries. The Tomcom was started by the government to facilitate employment of Telangana youth, offering qualitative services to people.

It aims to train workers to the overseas standards, organise skill up-gradation and skill development programmes to meet the demands of international market apart from providing travel, passport, visa and stamping assistance.
