dubai — Aster DM Healthcare and RAK Insurance announced on Tuesday an affordable life and hospitalisation insurance scheme for non-resident Indians (NRIs) in the UAE.

‘Arise’, the first NRI protection plan of its kind offered outside India to benefit the community, allows NRIs to extend care to families in their homeland.

Designed to protect NRIs and their families from unexpected expenses brought by situations needing medical attention such as illness or accidents, Arise ensures access to quality healthcare and services across more than 5,500 hospitals in India besides accident protection and life coverage.

Typically, for a family of five including parents above 60 years old, the annual cost for a comprehensive scheme could be around Dh2,400.

The plan is available through any hospital in the network of the third party administrator but benefits from the coverage of outpatient consultation that is exclusive in the hospital networks of Aster DM Healthcare at Maharashtra, Andra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala.

Developed by RAK Insurance, the plans come in silver, bronze, gold and platinum packages mainly covering worldwide personal accident and hospitalisation riders with different schemes, depending on the chosen package for the NRI and their families in India.

Indian Ambassador to the UAE T.P. Seetharam said Arise is “a good example of how we can encourage our fellow citizens to prepare for the future and be protected when an unfortunate situation occurs.”

Dr Azad Moopen, chairman and managing director of Aster DM Healthcare, said this initiative would benefit fellow NRIs. “Arise takes off the burden of worrying about the welfare of families left behind by Indians who live outside the country. With the comprehensive protection plan covering life, accident and hospitalisation needs of one’s spouse, parents, in-laws and children back home, they are able to extend care while working in the UAE,” said Dr Moopen.

Initially, the scheme is available to NRIs in the UAE, but will be introduced in other GCC countries, he said.

would have peace of mind knowing that not only do they have financial health protection but are also covered by a wide network of medical institutions that can provide outpatient and inpatient services.

“With Arise, cost-effective accident cover and healthcare benefits in India are now available. We offer not just protection for their families but also peace of mind that care will be given from excellent and quality hospitals,” said Andrew Smith, CEO, RAK Insurance.

Aster’s chain of establishments in India that cover Arise include Aster MedCity Kochi, Kerala, Aster MIMS in Calicut and Kottakal, DM WIMS in Wayanad, Aster Medipoint Hospital in Pune, Aster Prime Hospitals in Ameerpet and Kukatpally in Hyderabad and Aster CMI Hospital in Bengaluru.

“We ensure that the policyholders benefit by quick and single window system process through over 800 branches in India,” said Sam Gosh, Group CEO, Reliance Capital.
