LET’S REALLY GET DOWN TO RECYCLING
Here’s a sobering thought. For all its other achievements, UAE has one of the largest carbon footprints in the world. In UAE, every person on average g generates 2.5kg of rubbish per day. That’s over 900kg kg per person per year, approximately 400kg more per person than in countries such as France and Italy.
So, what are we doing wrong? ? One word: consumption. We’re consuming more than we’ree’re responsibly disposing off. We don’t repurpose, we don’tn’t recycle. Think off all the plastic we spew, the take-out boxes, oxes, cling films, disposable cutlery, beverage cans, milk bottles, ottles, styrofoam cups we drink tea in in office; it all adds up. We’re producing more garbage than ever, and not disposingposing it off responsibly enough. Landfills are choking. And here’s why we need to recruit the kids. We need their eir help, to keep a check on their parents’ recycling habits. bits. If we teach them to segregate trash, and to once or twice a week regularly take out the trash to a recycling centre (so it can reused), they’ll turn into the eco-warriors we need them to be, to cut the trash, monitor adults, and bring UAE’s carbon footprinttprint down to an acceptable level.l.
