dubai — A 28-year-old resident, who allegedly sexually assaulted his long time female friend while he was taking her home with his friend, faced trial on Monday in the Court of First Instance.

The Kenyan man, W.M., is believed to have raped his compatriot inside a car outside her flat, shortly after partying together with other friends and having alcohol at the house of one of them. The case dates back to December last year.

The Kenyan woman, 24, said that few hours prior to the incident, she was at her flat in Satwa where she had two male guests, including S.K., a 29-year-old Kenyan security guard.

“At 9pm, W.M. came over and we all shared a meal. Later on we went to the house of the other guest and had some liquor.”

She asked S.K., who lived in the same neighbourhood to give her a ride. W.M. rode next to her in the back seat. She claimed that W.M. began to touch her and asked to have sex with her. But she tried to keep him away from her.

As S.K. reached her place he pulled over. “He grabbed my neck while W.M. lowered my pants”. She claimed that W.M. sexually assaulted her and she bled as a result of that. She registered a complaint with the Bur Dubai police. A policeman said that the complainant gave a statement at the police centre around 1am on December 5 claiming that she was raped. “She claimed that W.M. sexually assaulted her with the help of S.K. and that she was shocked by their doing”.

Asked by the officer why she was late in reporting the incident, the woman said that she was confused and did not know what to do. The officer said that no charges were filed against S.K. in the sexual assault case.

But S.K. and W.M. have both been referred to the Court of Misdemeanors on the charge of consuming alcohol without a licence. Next hearing will be held on April 14.
