Top teams set for U17 tourney

dubai — The sixth edition of the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) run Hamdan bin Mohammed Internatio­nal Football Championsh­ip for promising under 17 teams, will see Internacio­nal (Brazil), Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid, Hilal of Saudi Arabia, and UAE’s Al Wasl, Al Ahli, Al Nasr and Hatta, taking part at the Dubai Police Officers’ Club turf grounds.

On the opening day on April 8, there will be two matches — Borussia Dortmund v Al Wasl; followed by the Hilal-Hatta clash. The second day’s ties on April 9 will see Al Ahli challenge Real Madrid and Al Nasr run into Internacio­nal.

Ali Omar, director, Sports Developmen­t Dept. DSC and head of the organising committee, said: “The Championsh­ip to be contested by top world clubs is a unique opportunit­y for Dubai’s residents to enjoy watching future football stars from Real Madrid, Spain, Borussia Dortmund of Germany, Internacio­nal of Brazil and Hilal of Saudi Arabia beside promising local sides — Al Nasr, Al Ahli, Al Wasl and Hatta.”

He added: “The last five editions of the Championsh­ip have presented several players, who have currently become top football stars in Europe and Latin America.”

Emirates Flight, Audi Automobile, Dubai Sports Channel, Movenpick Hotel, Sun & Sand and Events Insurance Committee are the lead sponsors followed by Saif Belhasa Evenok, Skydive and Street Ampoules.
