Nothing fishy about the missing fish
The Department of Economic Development urged the customers to ensure that they take all the materials they purchased along with them when they leave the shops. Customers should double check their purchase and make sure that none of the products they purchased are missing. They should also verify the bill to ensure that none of the billed products are missing.
A consumer who purchased fish worth Dh117 along with other foodstuff and fruits from a trade store, and discovered later that the fish was missing, approached the manager of the shop, complaining about the matter with hope to find a solution, but with no avail.
He then lodged a complaint with the Consumer Complaints Section at the Department of Economic Development, Dubai (DED), saying he was shocked to discover the fish were not among the purchases; nevertheless he checked the bill and the fish was listed with other items.
In his complaint, the consumer said neither the shop cooperated with him, nor did it take action, which prompted him to approach the DED. The officer at the Consumer Complaints Section contacted the store manager, and inspected the CCTV footage from the shop.
From the footage, it was found that the helper in the shop had put the fish in a plastic bag and other foodstuff in separate bags. The trade store had done its work to the best manner, but the question remained: Where had the fish gone? The manager told the officer that there were instances when the consumer forgets some of the bags in the trolley after putting other pack-etxs in the car. Usually, such packets are returned to the shop, and kept there at the customers service section to return to the customer when he comes back and claims the stuff he had left behind. However, in this case, the missing fish bag was not brought back by the workers in the store, said the manager. He assumed that the bag might have been taken by somebody else.
The DED urged all the customers to keep the bills to ensure the products are listed and comply with the printed specifications.
