Be fit, to get fit

Ready to embark on a regular lifestyle of fitness and working out? Your body needs to be ready too — tips and pointers from the expert

- Annie Browne

We all want to get fit and look good — both for health and aesthetic purposes, but the act of getting fit can be a challenge in itself, and not just because it requires going to the gym or health club and training hard. You need to know if you’re in the right condition in order to be able to work out and embark on physical training in the first place. Our laidback, sedentary lifestyles and improper diets takes a toll on our bodies that is often well underestimated, so in most cases, you need a checklist of things to do and watch out for, if you’re just getting started on a regular workout and fitness routine.

We often had people brought into the emergency room suffering from various medical emergencies that happened in gyms, fitness centres and sports facilities. Sometimes, there was nothing we could do. People go to gyms and play sport to get fit; however sometimes their bodies are not fit to get fit and they do not always know about it. If someone collapses and is not breathing, you only have three minutes to get oxygen to the brain before they start becoming brain dead. An ambulance will usually take longer than that to arrive on scene so it is vital that good first aid is available from trained and competent staff.

Make sure you read the rest of this page — it could save your life, or at the very least, mentally prepare you for the challenges of a fit life.
