Make conduct certificate must for entry visa: Dhahi Khalfan

- Mustafa Al Zarooni

dubai — A top police official has urged authorities to make attested good conduct certificate mandatory while issuing entry visas and verify records of expatriates in the country.

Lt-General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, the Deputy Chairman of the Dubai Police and General Security, proposed the idea as a precautionary method in the wake of the shocking rape-murder of an 8-year-old Jordanian boy.

Lt-General Dhahi Khalfan urged private companies and establishments to check the employees records before hiring them, to avoid occurrence of any crimes or risks thereafter. He, however, noted that there are countries, which are corrupt to the core who could facilitate authentic good conduct certificates, but the measure remains largely effective.

Interpol’s red alert helps to identify hard core criminals, however, it will be difficult to get countrywise criminal record at it is a difficult and complex procedure, he added. Moreover, no country has complete record of criminals.

Lt. General Dhahi Khalfan said that no previous judicial measures had been taken against the culprit in the murder of the 8-year-old Jordanian boy Obaida, though there were criminal records against him.

The Attorney General Counsellor Essam Al Humidan is handling the case, one of the most heinous child abuse cases in the country.

The case has made both Emiratis and expatriates as well as jurists to demand competent authorities for deporting those who have criminal records as precautionary measure.
