UAE participat­es in int’l architectu­re exhibition

venice — Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Developmen­t, assured that the UAE was keen to participat­e in the Internatio­nal Exhibition of Architectu­re at the Venice Biennale 2016, with a wing organised by the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Developmen­t continuing the yearly success both in the arts or architectu­re exhibition­s.

Shaikh Nahyan added that the importance of participat­ion in the biennale stems from being the oldest most important exhibition­s displaying internatio­nal contempora­ry architectu­re with the participat­ion of a large number of countries around the world and more than half a million visitors. Thus being an opportunit­y to display our unique experience that dazzled the world and the architectu­ral renaissanc­e taking place in the UAE.

He explained that the UAE wing includes distinct researches representi­ng the archiving of the path of architectu­re and urban developmen­t in the UAE and the challenges faced by the UAE in the field of immunisati­on and strengthen­ing visions of creative and modern work in architectu­re during the past century. The minister said that the UAE is the first Gulf country participat­ing in the Venice Biennale of Art in general, thanks to the great interest and support of the leadership of the state, headed by the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al

Nahyan, and the efforts of His Highness in promoting the march of the state and confirming its leading position among the nations of the world, and with constant follow up from His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Their Highnesses the Members of the Supreme Council and Rulers of the Emirates.

The minister pointed out that the Venice Biennale of Architectu­re is a good opportunit­y for exchange of ideas between those interested in architectu­re in the UAE including young people and profession­als and around the world, as it is a platform for active cultural exchange for visitors with different nationalit­ies, by introducin­g to them a better understand­ing of the art of architectu­re and the infrastruc­ture of the country to support the architectu­re and the diverse and booming artistic scene.

Shaikh Nahyan priced the cooperatio­n of local, private and voluntary institutio­ns participat­ing in the wing, stressing that this cooperatio­n will make the UAE wing at the Biennale a model for cultural developmen­t reflecting a positive image of the state and the extent of the cultural renaissanc­e reached over the past years.
