Emirati killed on spot as bus rams into bike

- Ahmed Shabaan

ras al khaimah — An Emirati youth died on the spot after the motorbike he was riding collided with a bus on Al Rams Road on Tuesday morning.

According to Col. Salem Rabie, Chief of the Al Rams police station, the 19-year-old victim, identified as H.R., succumbed to injuries due to excessive bleeding.

“Initial investigation found that the 50-year-old driver of the bus, an Asian, entered from a U-turn on the road wrongly, which led to the crash,” Col.Rabie said.

The central operations room of the Ras Al Khaimah (RAK Police), having been alerted of the gruesome collision, dispatched a rescue team to the site in record time, but the victim breathed his last before their arrival. The Emirati youth tried hard to avoid collision with the bus, but could not make it, Col Rabie said.

Col Rabie urged motorists to strictly observe traffic rules and be responsible on the road for road users’ safety and theirs.

According to him, entering from a side road or a U-turn poses a grave risk to all road users’ safety and has been reportedly blamed for a number of fatal accidents.

The RAK Police have launched several awareness campaigns to curb the number of traffic accidents and casualties, he said.

“Hefty fines, black points, temporary or permanent suspension of driving license, and trial await reckless drivers who put road users’ lives at a grave risk.” ahmedshaaban@khaleejtimes.com
