Family is most important for a happy life in Dubai

- Staff Reporter

dubai — A new research from YouGov has found that family and friends play the most important role in living a healthy and happy life for 60 per cent of Dubai residents.

A survey identified it as the single largest contributing factor to the overall health and happiness of the residents in Dubai.

The survey, conducted among over 500 Dubai residents, asked them questions about a number of important health and happiness indicators, which included exercise, diet, smoking, relaxation, sleep, impatience, support networks and life enjoyment.

The data revealed that most of the Dubai residents generally enjoy their lives. More than half (52 per cent) of the respondents claimed they enjoy their work and daily routines, usually or frequently. Less than half — 46 per cent — said they find it easy to relax and sleep in the city, saying they always, usually or frequently get between seven and eight hours of sleep, at least four nights a week.

Many Dubai residents also noted that exercise and diet are important priorities for them. with 40 per cent saying they usually or frequently exercise for half an hour at least twice a week, and 45 per cent said they eat a balanced diet.

Fewer residents, however, said they tend to avoid smoking. Of the respondents, just 38 per cent claiming they don’t always, usually or frequently smoke cigarettes or consume shisha.

Regarding impatience, nearly half of the respondents said they find it easy to relax, and only 36 per cent said they don’t (always, usually or frequently) get impatient when delayed — making it the most significant threat to respondents’ ability to lead a healthy and happy lifestyle.

When all health and happiness indicators are taken into account, research found that Dubai has a relatively high urban health and happiness index score of 62 out of 100.
