dubai — Dubai has been ranked 12th among the global best cities that have a good mix of economic strength, solid infrastructure, innovation, influence, great entertainment, culture and food.

Dubai, the only Arab city to figure in the top 23 global best cities, is “winning” when it comes to being innovative and modern, according to global accounting and consultancy firm PwC.

PwC, in collaboration with BAV Consulting, surveyed a group of 5,200 people from 16 countries about where they believe the best cities in the world are and sent the results to Business Insider.

London came top of the ranking in the new study of the world’s greatest cities, leaving close competitors Paris and New York behind. The poll, published last week by consultancy firm PwC, was conducted in December 2015, before Britain’s shock Brexit verdict.

Paris was second, scoring highly on 28 of 36 attributes. It’s No. 1 in cultural influence, including attractions and setting cultural trends, and in the top-three-ranked cities in terms of entertainment and cuisine, PwC said.

New York, which came third. As one of the planet’s most iconic cities, it is also one of its best thanks largely to its economic power. It ranks No. 1 in the leadership category “for its economic influence and ability to provide easy access to capital,” the report said.

While Amsterdam, famously laid back and dedicated to pedestrians and cyclists, is perceived as having the least traffic congestion of any city on this list, helping it to 4th overall, Sydney came fifth with a reputation for little congestion and environmental care.

Lagos, in Nigeria, was rated at the bottom of both lists; with Jakarta, Mumbai and Bogotá also scoring poorly. According to the recent version of the Global Competitiveness Report 2016 issued by the World Economic Forum, the UAE ranks first regionally and 16th globally, maintaining its lead among the top 20 competitive economies in the world.

The report said the Arab world economies are among the top 30 most competitive in the world: These are the UAE (16, up 1); Qatar (18, down 4) and Saudi Arabia (29th, down four). The highest oil-importing economy is Jordan (up 1 to 63).
