No serious crimes in Ajman this year

ajman — No serious crimes were reported in the last nine months in Ajman, the police have revealed. Brig Shaikh Sultan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ajman Police, said during the same period last year, five serious crimes were reported.

However, the emirate recorded an increase in drug-related crimes. This year, 191 drug-related cases, including traffickin­g, consumptio­n, dealing and possession, were reported; as opposed to 181 last year. He also said the number of cyber crimes has gone up, with 12 cases being reported this year as compared to two last year.

The Ajman Police are launching awareness campaigns among the public on ways to avoid falling victim to cybercrime­s, including identity and credit card thefts. The police have lunched campaigns at high schools, colleges and among the public using social media platforms. Crimes relating to insulting religions remained the same this year and the last — nine. Assault crimes reduced by 107, with 548 and 655 cases being reported this year and last, respective­ly.

In general, the number of crimes reduced by 1,095 cases. This year, 5,338 cases were recorded across Ajman police stations, while last year, 6,433 cases were reported. Financial crimes topped the list, with 4,155 crimes this year as opposed to 4,950 cases last year.
