Abdullah, British foreign secretary discuss ties

london — Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Internatio­nal Cooperatio­n, met Boris Johnson, British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonweal­th Affairs, in London on Thursday.

During the meeting, Shaikh Abdullah and Johnson discussed ties of friendship between the two countries and ways to enhance them.

The meeting also touched on means to further bilateral cooperatio­n in all domains, and the importance of developing them, in a way that would meet the two countries’ aspiration­s.

The two sides reviewed aspects of coordinati­on and consultati­on on bilateral issues, as well as the current regional and internatio­nal developmen­ts. They also exchanged views on topics of mutual interest.

Shaikh Abdullah emphasised the importance of UAE’s bilateral relations between the United kingdom and praised the progressiv­e ties between the two friendly countries and peoples. Underlinin­g the need to enhance cooperatio­n in commercial, economic and investment fields, Shaikh Abdullah called for tangible steps to finalise signing of a free trade agreement between the GCC countries and the UK, especially after the latter’s exist from the European Union.

He said the GCC countries are committed to sustaining and strengthen­ing commercial cooperatio­n with the UK.

Secretary Boris Johnson welcomed Shaikh Abdullah and his accompanyi­ng delegation, saying that his visit to the UK reflected the keenness of the leadership­s in the two countries to develop relations and to exchange officials visits to serve the interests of the two friendly peoples.

He added that his country was looking forward to deepening such mutually beneficial relations, saying the UAE’s success story had won a wide regional and internatio­nal respect. The meeting was attended by Sulaiman Hamid Al Mazroeui, UAE’s Ambassador to the UK.
