Raise the flag as high as our ambitions: VP

- Ahmed Shaaban

dubai — His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has called on all UAE citizens and residents “to raise high the UAE flag in every nook and corner of the country” to celebrate UAE Flag Day on November 3.

The day coincides with the anniversary of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s assumption of office as the leader of the

country. In a series of tweets, Shaikh Mohammed said: All institutions, ministries, schools, and government entities have to jointly raise the UAE flag next Thursday at 11am.”

The UAE flag is to be raised up high on all “our houses, farms, and facilities”, he said, adding: “We shall raise the UAE flag in one heart that is deeply in love with the soil of this land.

“Brothers and sisters, we shall all celebrate the flag of our country — the symbol of our dignity, the banner of our glory, the UAE flag, the flag of our federation, union, and sacrifice.”

“We want to see it as high in the sky as are our ambitions, and as dear as are our souls, flying over every nook and corner of the country,” Shaikh Mohammed said.

Shaikh Mohammed underlined that the “UAE flag is not just a banner with a drawing or a piece of coloured cloth. “It is a pulsing heart in our chests which we are more than ready to sacrifice our blood, souls and children for.”

Citizens speak

Abdullah Salem, an Emirati anchor, told Khaleej Times that UAE Flag Day is a national occasion where people of the United Arab Emirates remember the efforts of the founders of their State, Shaikh Zayed and Shaikh Rashid, and their brothers who sacrificed everything for the sake of their nation. “It is a day when the national spirit is renewed, and an occasion to reflect on the achievements of the era of President Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.”

Adel Saeed, an Emirati national, said the UAE flag represents meanings of justice, peace, tolerance, power and moderation, under which all Emiratis live a decent life and enjoy security and stability. “This comes in continuation of the legacy of the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.”
