Contractor arrested as illegal labourer falls to his death
sharjah — The Sharjah Police have arrested an Arab man who tried to flee the country after one of his illegal workers died at a construction site. The deceased was wanted by the police.
The Arab man, who owns a contracting company, was arrested at the Sharjah International Airport, as he tried to flee the country after the worker fell to his death from an under-construction high-rise building.
According to the police, they were notified about a body in an industrial area in Sharjah. A police team discovered that the deceased was living in the country illegally and was wanted by the police.
During the investigation, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) found that the deceased was hired by the contractor for daily wages. After the worker fell from the high-rise, the contractor dumped the body in the industrial area and tried to flee.
Crime scene experts collected forensic evidence from the site and shifted the body to the forensic laboratory for an autopsy.
The police launched a manhunt for the contractor and arrested him from the airport.
During the interrogation, the contractor confessed that he had hired the deceased.
Col. Ibrahim Al Ajill, Director of the CID, told Khaleej Times that despite warnings, contractors continue hiring illegals and absconders. Employing illegals affects the security and stability of the country, he stressed. “These violating companies have become a safe resort for illegals, who in most cases are wanted by the police.”
