Dh600 fine for using bus lanes on Dubai roads from tomorrow
dubai — Motorists found driving in dedicated bus lanes on Al Ghubaiba and Al Mamzar roads will be fined Dh600 starting tomorrow, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced. The move follows the expiry of a one-month trial run offered to motorists.
During the awareness month, 8,439 offences were reported, but did not involve financial penalties. Adel Shakri, director of transportation systems, RTA public transport agency, said: “We were keen to alert private motorists using the dedicated bus lanes on Al Mamzar and Al Ghubaiba roads before issuing them fines.”
The fine will be issued on motorists caught by surveillance cameras or by police patrols. Should the driver incur two fines for the same offence, just one will be issued.
“To ensure the smooth flow of other vehicles, the RTA has allocated a 20-metre grace distance near exits, turns and loading/drop off areas to enable motorists to turn towards the exit,” said Shakri.
Only public buses, taxis, police and civil defence vehicles, and ambulances will be allowed to use the lane.
